The countryside of the Val di Noto is hugely varied, and ranges from the ‘Tuscan’ rolling hills of the area around Noto, dotted with citrus groves, to the rugged moors and dales of the Ragusano, striped with dry stone walls.

In the spring the countryside is a riot of wild flowers and meadows. There are plenty of opportunities of walking and hiking along old drovers paths, through the Cava d’Ispica and to the Cava Grande del Cassibile.

In late January the fields are filled with almond trees in flower, while in April the air is filled with the heady perfume of the citrus flowers. After the long dry summer the countryside comes to life again in the early autumn with more flowers and the sowings of the winter wheat.
